Description Aims and Objectives
The St. John Care in the Community Library is funded by the voluntary section of The Commandery of St. John in Guernsey and is manned by a group of voluntary workers formed to provide, and distribute, normal and large print books to hospitals (except the Princess Elizabeth Hospital), nursing and residential homes, and the house-bound of Guernsey.
The Library was awarded the Quuen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2014.
Organisation and Management
The library committee consists of the Organiser, Secretary, Treasurer, plus three other volunteer library workers. Distribution of books is from the purpose-built library in the grounds of the St. John Ambulance Station. Drivers/Librarians provide a regular service to the hospitals, nursing and residential homes and the housebound. The Library itself is open to the public on Tuesday afternoons from 1 until 4 pm. It has easy parking and wheelchair access.
