GSPCA Purple Month – Volunteer Induction Evening 630pm Wednesday 8th February 2023
Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA)

This month we celebrate 150 years with GSPCA Purple Month and without volunteers we would have never of been founded. On 11th February, 1873, a meeting was convened in the rooms of the Societe Guernesiaise “for the purpose of considering the expediency of establishing in the Island a Societe for the suppression of Cruelty to Animals” and the Dean of Guernsey was called to the Chair. The Patron of the Society was His Excellency Lt. General Froome. A Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was thus established on the 14th February 1873 and became known as the GSPCA. A considerable amount of time in the early days was spent in persuading owners and drivers of horse drawn vehicles to show some consideration for their animals. To see more on our history please go to https://www.gspca.org.gg/about At the GSPCA we are extremely busy and we are currently looking for new volunteers to join the team as well as recruiting new staff. Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have had an incredibly busy 2022 as we have for 10 years and during GSPCA Purple Month we celebrate our amazing history and as part of that we are running a Volunteer Induction Evening on Wednesday 8th February at 630pm.” “Volunteers help in all areas of the work of the Shelter and from animal care to gardening, reception to the ambulance, painting to dog training, our charity shop in town to the many events and so much more there really is something for everyone.” “As mentioned the next induction is during GSPCA Purple Month on the 8th February or we also have the application forms online to complete and return which can speed up the process.” “We are hugely grateful to all of our team who we couldn’t do so much without and if you are looking to volunteer then this is how or we do have paid vacancies also available.” “Application packs for the vacancies can be downloaded from our website, collected from our reception or we can post them out.” “We are incredibly lucky to have such an amazing team at the GSPCA and if you would like to be part of a charity that makes a real difference then please do get in touch.” “We are advertising currently for specific areas to see if there is someone out there keen to work with certain animals or other areas like reception or the maintenance and ambulance.” “All this month we celebrate this milestone with our GSPCA Purple Month and to get involved and find out more please check out https://www.gspca.org.gg/page/gspca-celebrating-150-years .” If you are a trained volunteer and maybe not helped see pre-covid all you need to do is pop in and the team will have plenty for you to do and we can get you back involved.
