Are you looking for a rewarding role, partnering with charities who support people, especially those who are disadvantaged, to play a fuller role in our islands’ communities? We’re looking for an individual with a legal professional qualification who is based in Guernsey to join our dynamic Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following: • Strong understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of Trusteeship. • An awareness of corporate governance and other standards relating to charities and charitable foundations. • A strong personal interest in and awareness of the activities of the charitable sector, preferably with first-hand knowledge. Trustees serve in a voluntary capacity and are appointed for an initial term of three years and can continue for a maximum of six years. The Board meets four times a year, and Trustees are required to participate in sub-committees, events and charity visits. All necessary travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed. The ActionAid Guernsey Support Group is seeking a new Chair for the local charity. This is a voluntary position with an expected commitment of between 5-10 hours per month, but this can be flexible. The Chair has overall responsibility for the charity, ensuring compliance with legal governance requirements, chairs Committee meetings and the AGM, and gives speeches/presentations. The role would be perfect for someone that is enthusiastic about working for an international charity and would like to use their skills, experience and contacts to lead the charity forward – including focussing on volunteer recruitment and exploring new fundraising opportunities.

The ActionAid Guernsey Support Group is seeking a new Treasurer for the local charity. This role would suit someone with finance experience or confident with accounting and use of budgets. The Treasurer is responsible for collating the charity’s financial accounts, which will be discussed at Committee meetings, and liaising with the auditor for the annual accounts, produced ahead of each AGM. The Treasurer also holds the cheque book and is a signatory on the bank account. The funds raised at all events, and any expenses are all cleared through the Treasurer. The Treasurer also deals with Income Tax submissions and is responsible for preparing cheques to send funds to ActionAid UK. This is a voluntary position with the expected time commitment of 2 – 5 hours per month, but the Treasurer could also assist with other areas of the charity (such as volunteering or arranging ad-hoc fundraising – if of interest).

The Guernsey Swimming Club (GSC) is looking for a person willing to give their time as Welfare Officer for the Club, replacing one officer who has a conflict in covering two roles within the club. The role is essential in providing a first point of contact for children, parents and adults within the GSC who have a child safeguarding or welfare concern. We are looking for a volunteer with - - a child-centred approach - ideally with some previous safeguarding or welfare background; - Basic admin and record maintenance skills; - Excellent communication skills; - Confidence when referring cases to external agencies; - The ability to ensure policy and procedures are effectively implemented. The GSC expects you: - To attend the necessary safeguarding courses as and when required (usually 2 courses every two years); - To assist the club in implementing Wavepower, Swim England’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures document; - To be the first point of contact for club staff, volunteers, young people, and parents for any issues concerning child welfare, poor practice or potential or alleged abuse; - To ensure that all incidents are reported correctly and referred, in accordance with Wavepower; - To ensure that all relevant club members, volunteers and staff have an up to date DBS Enhanced Disclosure (this should be updated every 3 years) and the opportunity to access appropriate child safeguarding training - To act independently and in the best interests of a child at the club, putting their needs above that of others and the club itself; - To ensure that Codes of Conduct are in place for club volunteers, coaches, competitors and parents; - To ensure confidentiality is maintained and information is only shared on a ‘need to know’ basis. The level of commitment required will vary but will include ad-hoc attendance at meetings and dedicated time should any child protection concerns be raised. It provides an invaluable service to the community, helping around 3,500 people each year on a wide range of issues including: financial, employment, housing, relationships, consumer, and health. It is expected that in the next few years the demand for our service will increase especially with the pressures caused by the cost-of-living crisis. We are very fortunate to have an enthusiastic and dedicated team of volunteers who keep the Citizens Advice Service running for the benefit of the local community, but we need more. From becoming a Generalist or a Money Adviser, to joining the Research & Campaigns team, or being part of the Office admin team, we have a wide range of volunteering opportunities.
